"The Tale of the Golden Doctor's Note" is the ninth episode of the first season of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It premiered on September 27, 2012.

Synopsis[]

Randy and Howard, with the help of Julian, try to find the golden doctor's notes under Norrisville High so they don't have to climb a rope during gym class.

Plot[]

In Gym Class, the boy students are subjected to the insanity of Coach Green. Although the fire brigade calls, which forces Coach Green to call off "Hopscorch" and changes the lesson to be about climbing a rope instead, the younger boys are still inevitably faced against the bullying of the older male students, who are going to assault them with balls during their climbs. At first, Coach Green tells Stevens he has to climb the rope, until Stevens shows him his doctor note, which allows him to not have to climb the rope. Luckily for Howard, the school bell rings, so Howard does not need to climb the rope until the next day, but he is still mad at the fact that he can't escape from this unwanted activity due to lacking a doctor's note.

Later, Randy and Howard are in the boys' locker room, where they get bullied by having Bash cluck out Howard's only chest hair. Randy, upon getting the Nomicon after getting the math book at first, consults the Nomicon in the bathroom stall, hoping it has a method to help him and Howard. When Randy enters the Nomicon, it tells Randy

"The best way to avoid an attack, is to avoid an attack."

After hearing this, Randy becomes frustrated at the Nomicon and yells "If you didn't wan to help, all you had to do was not shloomp me in here!", which provokes the Nomicon enough to split its realm's floors and shloomp Randy out.

After having to bear Stevens' taunting trombone tune, Randy suggests getting a "golden doctor's note" from the school's old gym, to which Howard believes such a mysterious item is a myth. During Randy's search for the old gym's entrance, he comes across Julian, who's been hiding in one of the lockers, and he reveals to Randy and Howard that he has been finding the old gym with a map. Soon, Randy figures out the way to enter the old gym is to press the locker room's toilet's soap dispenser. However, this also releases a strong waft of stank, which gives the Sorcerer a plan to stank a victim who will destroy the Golden Doctor's Notes for him.

Soon, the three boys' first obstacle is to hop through hobble horses. Due to Howard's clumsiness and weight, he also falls into the ravine, and is mad at Randy who bothers saving him, as he knows he almost died. Julian initially is still excited about the adventure, enthralled by the ball conveyor, until he accidentally triggers the conveyor belt to move and almost gets crushed by the rolling spikes mounting towards him. Despite Randy having rescued Julian, Julian is already traumatized by the event. When Randy orders Howard to stay with Julian, Howard instead dumps Julian, who is vulnerable enough to get stanked by the Sorcerer.

Afterwards, both Randy and Howard find the abandoned office, where the Golden Doctor's Notes are housed. However, to access them, one must climb a rope, much to the boys' chagrin. The two boys' original plan is to have Randy as the Ninja grab the Doctor's Notes, retrieve Julian, and leave the old gym. However, a stanked Julian suddenly shows up and attacks them, so Ninja has to fight back. To Ninja's surprise, it turns out Howard can climb a rope despite his stocky stature, and the truth of why Howard wants to avoid doing so is only for preserving his dainty hands. Watching Howard climb the flimsy rope, Ninja finally understands that the Nomicon's lesson is that he can simply avoid the attacks from Julian.

Not long after Howard obtains the Golden Doctor's Notes, however, stanked Julian resumes his onslaught and nabs the notes from Howard's hands. With the Nomicon's hint, Ninja finds out that Julian's hat is the object he needs to destroy, and punches the hat after snatching it from the distracted spider-like monster Julian, who gets destanked afterwards. During the process, most of the notes have been destroyed, except one that is taken by Howard. With this failure, the Sorcerer once again throws a tantrum about his chaos failing to create misery and suffering for others and instead inflicting these emotions upon himself.

The next day, Howard decides to avoid climbing a rope by showing off his Golden Doctor's Note, only to discover that Randy has swapped it with Julian with a Charlie Clucker's Chicken Bucket coupon. Unable to escape from his responsibility, Howard reluctantly and angrily starts climbing the rope to reach the ceiling, but soon is glad that Randy and the other boys save him from the hassle of being assaulted by Bash and the other bullies' incoming balls by letting him climb the rope. Meanwhile for Julian, despite being spared from gym class, still gets hit by one of the balls, which results in Stevens gloating at him with the bragging tune from the trombone.

Trivia[]

  • Julian has his first speaking appearance in the series.
  • Coach Green makes his first physical and speaking appearance in the series.
  • This is the first time Randy and Howard wear a P.E. Uniform.
  • The Golden Doctor's Notes are most likely a play on Willy Wonka's "Golden Ticket."
  • Julian is seen hanging upside down in a locker, which he also does in the opening theme song.
  • This is one of the rarer episodes that doesn't have a single female character, not even in the background.
  • While in other episodes, Doug Jaminski is friends with Bash, in this episode, he helps Randy and the other kids shake the rope as Howard climbs it, meaning that Bash sometimes bullies him as well.
  • Howard's small, delicate hands are mentioned for the first time.
  • Randy takes a longer time transforming this episode, which is a parody of the hour-long transformations that are seen in many anime.
  • When Randy and Howard go to rescue Julian, it parodies the vintage game "Donkey Kong".
  • Norrisville High is revealed to have an older, abandoned gym that is located underground.
    • The old gym is also implied to been visited several times by other students in the past, and that the Sorcerer is aware of the Golden Doctor's Notes' existence in said gym.

  • The Nameless Blond Boy with White Shirt has brown hair in this episode, instead of the blonde hair and hairstyle from his concept art.
