"The Brawn Also Rises" is the twenty-sixth episode of the second season (and seventy-eighth episode overall) of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It premiered on March 30, 2015.[1]

Synopsis[]

When Randy and Howard’s fake “Chuck-a-Cabra” video gives them instant celebrity status, it draws the attention of monster hunter Brawn Brickwall who tries to horn in on their glory by noogie-ing the beast.[1]

Plot[]

The boys are at first seen hastily trying to run away from a "Chuck-a-Cabra", with Howard seemingly having been captured. However, it turns out the bros are just faking their adventure with some shabby props for bragging themselves on Shoob Tube.

After their fake Chuck-ca-Cabra goes viral, both boys become internet celebrities, admired by the student body and even Slimovitz. Much to Randy's own surprise and bliss, Theresa actually specifically takes an ussie with him out of appreciating his deed.

However, the boys' glory is short-lived when the famous adventurer and television personality Brawn Brickwall arrives to claim his honor, and both Randy and Howard end up humiliated by Brawn publicly with Brawn's noogies for them. Of course, the Nomicon isn't too happy with Randy faking his glory and tries teaching him that feigned glory is inglorious with the lesson

"Glory unearned is Inglorious"

But Randy, being shabby with his own mother tongue, misinterprets "inglorious", and believes he and Howard should outdo Brawn instead.

The bros proceed to set their plan to outdo Brawn into motion, which is to tie a rope onto the head of the "Chuck-ca-Cabra" and Howard is going to be the one who yanks it off. Theresa conveniently approaches the boys, which makes Randy quite bashful to the subject of his affection, though Howard isn't too keen on his best friend being distracted. As Howard is adamant with exposing Brawn, he goes for it and gets his result on shocking all the other students, teachers and also Slimovitz. But soon, when Theresa teaches Randy the real meaning of "inglorious", Randy finally realizes it is wrong for him and Howard to even claim to have survived a Chuck-ca-Cabra attack in the first place. Unfortunately, Brawn gets so furious at Howard, he actually gets stanked by the Sorcerer.

As a mindless monster, Brawn proceeds to abduct Howard and take him to Mt. Chuck, where he keeps attacking Howard. Because of monster Brawn's acquired night vision, the Ninja is unable to strike any hit on the aggressive stanked man. Howard also ends up almost being tossed off by Brawn, until the Ninja uses a Sticky Ball to glue Howard onto part of Mt. Chuck to save Howard, who's ungrateful for being sticky. The Ninja then proceeds to uses his quick wit by using a Tiny Giant Exploding Ball to cause boulders to fall onto and immobilize Brawn. Thanks to the Nomicon's pointer, the Ninja realizes he has to cage and take Brawn back, so he and Howard can destank this monster by admitting their wrongdoings. Howard is very averse to this notion, but the Ninja notes to him that it is the only option for them to resolve the situation.

The boys eventually manage to get the stanked Brawn back to the school, where they have to admit their wrongs, with Howard mostly speaking for Randy. Although Howard still proceeds shirking most of the responsibilities onto Randy. Fortunately, the boys' admission works, and Brawn vows to quit his acts of hum-buggery. Theresa confronts the boys, and particularly tells Randy she is disappointed with him lying to her earlier. But at the end of the day, seeing how Randy genuinely apologizes to her, Theresa changes her mind and forgives him as she leaves him with a sweet sigh, and Randy reciprocates the feeling as he dreamily gazes at her while Howard drags him away, even though he still doesn't know what "infuriating" means.

As the episode nears the end, a creature, which has been lurking in the school's bushes, reveals itself to be a real Chuck-ca-Cabra and pounces onto the screen, which fades to black.

Trivia[]

  • The episode title is a reference to Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises.
  • The "Chuck-a-Cabra"'s name is a portmanteau of Mt. Chuck and the legendary Mexican monster, the Chupacabra.
  • Theresa Fowler makes her first speaking appearance of Season 2.
  • Julian, despite having been trapped in the Land of Shadows earlier in "Snow-Klahoma!", appears as a background character in this episode.
    • It is more than likely that this episode is chronologically before "Snow-Klahoma!".
  • An animation from Season 1 episode "Sorcerer in Love", in which the Sorcerer hysterically screams "NO!", is reused in this episode.
  • This episode reveals Randy is ineloquent in English, such as unable to distinguish antonyms and words with the "in-" prefixes, like "infuriating" and "inglorious".
  • It is unknown why Brawn knows Doug, an indistinguishable high school kid to outsiders. It is likely that this is just part of the running gag of Doug being annoying.
  • Running Gags:
    • Characters giving a "Noogie."
    • Characters telling the driver to drive, until they realize they have to adhere to the seat belt rule.
