"On the Poolfront" is the second episode of season 2 (and fifty-fourth episode overall) of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It premiered on July 19, 2014.

Synopsis[]

On the hottest day of the year, Mort Weinerman is finally able to build Randy and Howard's dream pool, thanks to his new promotion he received for building a robot that will destroy the Ninja for McFist.

Plot[]

The scenes opens to a battle in the middle of the streets, during an extremely hot day. Because of the high temperature, it hampers both the Ninja, and the polar bear-bot's ability to fight, so the two are barely even able to stand. As it continues, the fight is witnessed by a group of tourists, along with McFist and Viceroy, riding on the Ninja McTours Bus.

McFist is pleased at being able to profit from the Ninja fights, while also, sending in robots to destroy the Ninja. As the camera momentarily pans back to the fight, the two are still at a stale mate, but the tourists continue to cheer for the Ninja, causing Viceroy to scoff at them for ignoring his robot which he refers to as a masterpiece. McFist retorts by pointing out the state of the robot under the hot sun. As the cameras goes back to the fight, Randy calls the scene embarrassing and urges for the robot to get up. The robot tries to attack, but only end up destroying itself instead. Thankful that it is finally over, Randy smoke bombs away.

As the tour bus stops to take pictures with the destroyed robot, McFist and Viceroy exit the bus and enter a limos, all the while criticizing Viceroy for creating a polar bear robot during a heatwave. He continues this rant all throughout the way back to McFist's pyramid. He constantly claims how anyone would be able to built a robot better than him, while in this mood, they stumble upon Howard's father, Mort Weinerman in the elevator and promotes him to make robots with Mort accepting, as he couldn't find the courage to to say no.

The scene changes to the residential area, with Randy excitedly hurrying towards the Weinerman residence's backyard. Quickly removing his clothes and diving straight into the concrete floor, falsely believing a pool would break his fall. Upon seeing Howard in his bathing shorts and holding an inflated hoop, angrily states how he had texted him, that his dad had installed a pool. Howard explains that he was 'going to', but after checking it, he jokingly realizes that auto-correct had changed it. At that moment Gene Levine drives in on an excavator after being contracted to built a pool. While, Howard signs the papers, Randy question Howard on why is his father finally installing the pool now, after having promised to built one several years ago. Howard awkwardly attempts to explain about his father's promotion, but due to the loud noise from Gene's excavator Randy is unable to hear on what the promotion is about and simply assumes the best outcome.

Meanwhile, a short scene plays in McFist's industries in Viceroy's office. McFist and Viceroy watches from a distance as Mort is designing a robot. McFist is impressed by Mort's false 'never say no', attitude, while Mort is secretly regretting his decision and wished he had said no. He than nervous hand over the design to Viceroy, who is questioning the design. After being mocked by McFist, he builds the robot exactly as designed.

Back to the Weinnerman residence's backyard, Randy and Howard relax in an inflated pool, while Gene is busy with the construction. As they relax Howard reveals that the pool, they are in is filled with his sweat. Randy immediately gagged and exited to throws up, outside the fence. At the same time, the tour bus drives in near the house. A loud explosion is heard and smoke is emanating near the high school grounds. Rightfully believing that the Ninja would appear there, they drive off in that direction, while Randy begrudgingly ninja outs.

At the school grounds, the bus arrives first. McFist is excited and already gloating to Viceroy in the backseat about the eventual victory, even before properly seeing the robot himself. However, once the robot makes it on screen, it becomes apparent how extremely bad it is designed. This causes McFist to be worried, not wanting to take back his words. At that moment the Ninja finally appears and upon seeing the robot makes a similar remark as McFist.

The scene cuts to Howard lying down in the inflated pool, now completely dried up. He calls his father to further ask for a water slide, to which Mort agrees. Stating that as long as McFist is satisfied with his robot, they would never have to dry slide again. Which is when Randy interrupts by calling Howard over the phone, informing him about the new robot and how he'll easily destroy it. Howard hastily tells him, he can not and informs about his father's promotion. Randy is surprised but is further surprised when he is told to let the robot attack him and pretend to be defeated. He is hesitate at first, before Howard convinces him to follow the plan at least until the pool was constructed. Randy follows through with the plan and create the illusion that he has perished.

Overjoyed, McFist contacts the sorcerer and informs him about the ninja's demises. After confirming it himself, he then releases his stank and transforms all the tourists on the bus into monsters. As Randy heads back towards Howard's backyard, the bus reappears again this time filled with monsters that are attacking citizens. But the monster destanks himself when the Ninja stood in front of him. Upon witnessing monsters running ramped in the city, he consults the nomicon, when he is given the lesson;

" Hope is the Light that Vanquishes All Shadows."

He realizes that the reason why the people were stanked was because they believed that the Ninja had been destroyed, and to destank them, he must show that he is still alive. However, not wanting Mort to lose his promotion and not getting the pool, Randy tries to physically show to each of the stanked monsters that he's okay. But, due to the intense heat, it becomes harder and harder for him to do so. He realizes that he is unable to continue this any longer, forcing him to take a more public approach to appear in front of everyone, using the large flood light from the robot to cast a large shadow on a building, and everyone turns back to normal after seeing it.

Randy returns to Howard's backyard, with the pool finally completed. Howard is about to dive into the water, until he's stopped by his father saying that he's lost his promotion and hence they cannot keep the pool. Howard proceeds to blame Randy, and Mort sides with Howard for criticizing Randy instead of him. The episode ends with Howard and his dad happily lounging in the sweat filled inflated pool, with Randy nearby vomiting from the sight. A cutout image of a happy sun then fills the screen.
