"Night of the Living McFizzles" is the eleventh episode of the first season of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It is the second part of a two-part Halloween special, and it premiered on October 15, 2012.

Synopsis[]

When walking Theresa Fowler and Debbie Kang home on Halloween night, Randy and Howard try to figure out what is turning everyone in the town into zombies.

Plot[]

After riding a haunted house ride at Whoopee World with Theresa and Debbie Kang, Randy tries to hide the fact that he was scared on it to avoid being humiliated. Howard is mad, and tries to reveal that Randy was scared, to no avail.

Meanwhile, at McFist's house, McFist is attacked by a zombie and then scared by Viceroy. Viceroy explains that because of McFist's penny-pinching combination of his top secret weapons factory with his candy factory, the company's newest and most popular candies, McFizzles, have been weaponized, turning anyone who eats them into zombies who crave candy.

Faced with the zombie plague, McFist resolves to let Viceroy destroy Norrisville with a doomsday device, and though he changes his mind after realizing Marci would be obliterated, breaks the machine and is unable to stop it.

Randy is able to figure out a disgusting solution to the zombie plague, while Viceroy convinces McFist to turn the still-armed doomsday weapon on the McFizzles factory, sending a rain of the treats over Norrisville...a rain which Howard promptly starts to scarf down, to Randy's horror. The episode ends with Randy screaming upon witnessing Howard turning into a zombie again.

Trivia[]

  • The title is based on George Romero's 1968 horror film Night of the Living Dead.
  • Both Theresa Fowler and Debbie Kang make their first speaking appearances.
  • Besides Randy's half-a-cow and Howard's Viceroy costume, many other characters show up in costume as well:
  • Although "Viva El Nomicon" aired after this episode, this episode is chronologically before it because McFist bought Whoopee World in "Viva El Nomicon," and it's mentioned in this episode that McFist Industries owns the park.
  • The Whoopee World haunted house ride has signs reading both "Scary House" and "Haunted Mansion."
  • Viceroy's remark about "a confection of mass destruction" echoes the phrase "weapons of mass destruction," the supposed stockpiling of which by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein formed much of the basis for the 2003 Iraq War.
  • It is shown for the first time that Theresa has a crush on Randy.
  • The doomsday device was the same doomsday device from the previous episode "Dawn of the Driscoll."
  • The "Elm Street" sign in the episode makes a reference to the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street .
  • The Michael Jackson's Thriller 1983 music video is referenced, as one of the first zombies seen in the group of zombies is wearing a red jacket that looks like Jackson's outfit in that video.
  • The exterior of the house in which Howard, Theresa, and Randy take shelter is modeled after the Bates home in Alfred Hitchcock's film Psycho (1960).
  • The corridor scene with the patterned rug, the tricycling little boy, and the Blonde Twins dressed as the creepy little girls in blue dresses is a reference to the movie The Shining from 1980.
  • Howard's trick-or-treat bag is based on Viceroy's robot, Otto.
  • The episode shows that Randy refuses to hit a small child or baby, when one of the zombies holds up her baby and he waves his arms around, no longer knowing what to do.
  • Randy shows off two new weapons and one new move in this episode: the "Ninja Tripping Balls," the "Ninja Stalling Wedge," and the "Ninja Pukin' Poke."
  • This marks the first time Howard cries.
  • According to one of Nico Colaleo's Tumblr posts, the original animation of Heidi's zombie transformation scene before the "motion blur" effects was added as part of the same scene's final footage in this episode.
  • The episode both starts and ends with a shot of a screaming boy's vibrating uvula, first when Buttermaker is riding the Whoopee World haunted house ride and finally when Randy witnesses Howard's second zombie transmogrification.
  • This is the first episode that the NinjaNomicon did not give any lessons or make an appearance.
    • It is also the first episode that takes place entirely at nighttime.
  • Mike Moe is seen wearing his panda costume from "So U Think U Can Stank" during this episode.
