"McNinja - Brought to You by McFist" is the twenty-fourth episode of the second season (and seventy-sixth episode overall) of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It premiered on March 23, 2015.[1]

Synopsis[]

Ninja learns the dangers of selling out when he endorses every business in Norrisville, including McFist Industries.

Plot[]

The episode opens with the Ninja slicing a ribbon to inaugurate the opening of the newly restored high school library after the Ninja mentioned that he had accidentally destroyed it off screen with a Tengu fireball. Just before the Ninja smokebombs away, he is interrupted by Luigi, who asks if he could also do another ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of his new pizzeria, when the Ninja hesitates to accept, Luigi offers him free pizza. Immediately the scene shifts to Randy's bedroom with Howard yelling at Randy as it is revealed that Randy has turned down the offer, much to the infuriation of his best friend. Randy tries to explain that he didn't think it was very Ninja-ish to accepts bribes, however, Howard argues that celebrities often use their fame to gain free products, while using Brock Octane as an example. Randy becomes convinced and tells Howard to phone Luigi, at that moment the Nomicon shines brightly indicating that it wants to speak to him. As Randy shloopms inside the Nomicon, he is given the lesson of:

"The Ninja Belongs To Everyone"

Randy, however, misinterprets that as the Nomicon allowing him to do as he pleases. Once he vloomps back out, he finds Howard dressed in a business suit and has already secured them a comercial deal. The scene shifts into a montage of recorded comercials, with the Ninja as the main actor promoting variety of deals and products for the various businesses in Norrisville, from Greg's Game Hole, to Charlie Clucker's Chicken Bucket, to the Nameless shades lady's Put on 'em Glasses store, with the end of each ad, the boys are shown enjoying the free products they were given in exchange. McFist is them seen watching one of the commercials, as he comments his surprise to see the Ninja doing something not very ninja-ish, yet immediately changes his tune and want the Ninja for an ad for the company. At this remark, Viceroy devices a plan to lure the Ninja into a fake commercial ad and attack him while he is caught off-guard. Meanwhile, the Ninja is in the middle of another ad for Gene Levine's porta potty. Ninja is dissatisfied with the ad, as he is embarrassingly made to wear a bikini over his ninja suit, during this Howard recieves a phone call from Viceroy offering him a commercial deal, the offer is accepted and the shoot is scheduled for the next day, Viceroy relays this to McFist and futher explain that once the Ninja stands right on top of a specific spot that being a large 'x' symbol, and he would say the keyword "action" and multiple lasers disguised as studio lights would simultaneously fired at the intended spot. McFist expresses great excitement over the plan but makes a small but clear change that he would be the one to say action.

The scene immediately shifts to the next day, with the Ninja and Howard driving in a golf cart, the Ninja egotistically complaints to Howard how he is above the small time commercials and the free gifts he's given in exchange, comparing himself to Brock Octane, and placing himself to be higher then him due to him being a superhero, while the latter is only a movie hero. Howard placates him by informing that his latest promotional ad which takes place at the high school is a deal that Brock Octane wishes he had made. Upon immediately arriving there, the Ninja expresses his gratefulness to Howard before instructing him to drop all of his previous sponsors, which Howard does so promptly. Upon entering the gym, the Ninja meets McFist and Viceroy, who greets him warmly as the new face of McFist Industries. The Ninja, understandable doesn't wish to endorse the products made by his arch-enemy but then gives in to the temptations once he is shown the piles of McFist products intended for him and Howard in exchange. McFist instructs the now willingly Ninja to stand directly over the 'x' painted on the ground, and adamantly whispers to Viceroy to only active the laser when he says action.

However, just before it begins the Ninja recieves a call from Howard informing him that his now fired sponsors are furious with him, during the call the Ninja insults and belittles them which the sponsors overhears and become futher infuriated  which results in all of them becoming stanked. They, then crash into the gym and attack the Ninja using their various abilities to overwhelm him. During the fight the Ninja realise the true meaning of the Nomicon's lesson that the Ninja belongs to everyone, and not one individual and therefore cannot be sold. The Ninja tries to rectify his mistake by telling them that the Ninja is no longer for sale, however it yields no success and it is only through the help of the Nomicon's doodles that he realizes that he must destroy the free gifts in order to destank the sponsors.

After successfully destanking the sponsors, Ninja apologizes to them, and offered to drive them back to their places of business on the golf cart, leaving a dissatisfied McFist to complain that he did not even get the opportunity to say 'action', at that moment Viceroy pressed the switch, activating the lasers and destroys the gym in the process. The scene immediately shifts to McFist inaugurating the newly restored school gym, mirroring the beginning of the episode. The boys watch the inauguration at a distance, and while it appears that Randy has learnt his lesson, the same cannot be said for Howard as he begins pitching movie deals instead of commercial ads to Randy as they both walk away and the episode ends, revealing that Howard has been wearing a pair of sunglasses with a fake ponytail the entire time.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was released on Disney XD Southeast Asia on March 19, 2015 before it premiered in the USA.
  • RC9GN Director Joshua Taback posted a video of the process for drawing three seconds of rough animation for the show. The final product shows Randy as the Ninja running around a room picking up stuff and heading to an arcade video-game while jumping up and down, McFist and Viceroy watching him.
  • This is the second time where Randy wears his mask with it rolled up to show his mouth. The first instance was "Ninjception".
  • The Sorcerer was too busy meditating in this episode, so the Rat has to hold the Sorcerer's hand to stank the adults.
    • Hence, this is by far the only time the Sorcerer's victims are not stanked by the Sorcerer himself.
  • Howard at one point calls Randy "Ninjaleh," which would presumably be the Yiddish for "little ninja" (along the lines of common Yiddish endearments such as "bubbe" and "boychik," which Howard also employs); this not only refers to Howard's ethnicity being Jewish, but the common perception that Jewish people have been particularly influential in show-business and commerce. Both Howard and Randy adopt typically "Jewish" New York style accents as well.
  • Coach Green returns after being mostly absent during Season 2.
  • Running Gag: McFist trying to say action when it comes to destroying the Ninja and missing the mark.
