"Bring Me the Head of Ranginald Bagel!" is the forty-sixth episode of the first season of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It premiered on January 18, 2014.

Synopsis[]

When Randy lies that his name is "Ranginald Bagel," he puts the real Ranginald in danger of McFist's fury.

Plot[]

Randy and Howard prepare for a parade at which they daydream about wowing the audience. During the conversation, the name "Ranginald Bagel" comes up, revealing that the name is of an actual student. This worries Randy, as he had used this as an alias to protect his identity from Catfish Booray in "Swampy Seconds," as well as accidentally revealing his secret identity as the Norrisville Ninja. The two boys nonetheless dismiss both worries, thinking it impossible for Catfish to relay this information to McFist.

Meanwhile, at a diner shack in the swamp, McFist and Viceroy have visited Booray concerning the rumor that he knows the Ninja's identity. Catfish, unaware that "Ranginald Bagel" was not the Ninja's actual name, trades his information for the latest McFist Pad, whereupon McFist orders that Ranginald be destroyed.

Randy enters the Nomicon after being called and receives the lesson "The Ninja who looks the other way fails to see the attack"; as usual, Randy misinterprets the lesson until Executioner Bots are sent after Ranginald.

Randy suits up, but is unable to stop the hordes of robots. He realizes the only way to stop them is to show McFist that Ranginald is not the Ninja. Randy takes him to the parade, where a bored McFist is in attendance. Unfortunately, it proves impossible for Randy to show Ranginald and himself standing next to each other to McFist while he is trying to protect himself and Ranginald, so he uses the float where he and Howard were going to perform their music as a stage on which Ranginald can perform his (lousy) stand-up comedy. When McFist sees that Ranginald is not the Ninja, he blames Catfish, saying he shouldn't have trusted him. Though Viceroy tries to destroy Randy anyway, by causing all his inventions in the parade to target the Ninja, Randy is able to destroy them quickly, though he also destroys the whole parade thereby, ruing his and Howard's chance to perform.

After the parade, Randy later finally understands the lesson the Nomicon gave him, which was that he wasn't to look the other way and should have saved Ranginald beforehand, while trying to save him from Robo-Apes when he told them an offensive joke. The episode ends with Howard running off after telling Randy to save Ranginald again, with Ranginald concluding with him ending today's comedy.

Trivia[]

  • The title is a reference to the movie 1974 cult action film Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.
    • The phrase has been parodied in many, many subsequent works.
    • This also confirms that Catfish knew Randy was the Ninja after their first encounter.
  • Ranginald is one of the few background characters to get an expanded role, but he doesn't have more roles after this episode.
    • On April 12, 2022 Gilbert passed away from Ventricular tachycardia.
  • Another Norrisville celebration, The McFistival of Pride Parade, which is "the crown jewel of the Norrisville Parade Season" is shown.
  • It's revealed that there is a diner in the swamp.
  • Catfish appears to have patched up his magic pouch, implying that he has regained his powers.
  • In one scene at the parade, Theresa Fowler is shown in her Stevens costume from "Night of the Living McFizzles" while holding a Robo-Ape balloon with the marching band, but earlier, she had been shown in her baton twirling uniform with the other baton twirlers.
  • This is the first time Randy uses a Tengu Fireball without going into the Ninja Rage state. He previously used it without the suit in "Enter the Nomicon," but then he had been inside the NinjaNomicon, and as Mac stated, anything is possible in there.
    • Another possible explanation could be that it was simply an animation error.
  • Footage of "Swampy Seconds" about Randy being caught by Catfish and proceeding to lie about his name is reused.
